PurThread Sport introduced the next generation of high-performance sports clothing with the opening of its new online store. PurThread Sport's inaugural products include odor-fighting and moisture-wicking high-performance golf shirts utilizing the same proprietary antimicrobial fabric technology found in PurThread Technologies' hospital scrubs and doctors' lab coats.
Through PurThread's award-winning integration process, the antimicrobial elements are embedded into every fiber of the fabric to inhibit the growth of destructive and odor-causing bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus. PurThread Sport products meet the AATCC-100 24-Hour standard, a quantitative measure of how well the fabric inhibits the growth of odor-causing microorganisms. Over time, the PurThread Sport line of antimicrobial sportswear is expected to expand to include base layers, socks, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other types of sports and athletic clothing.

PurThread's textile technology integrates an antimicrobial agent that produces a chemical species known as hydroxyl radicals into every fiber of the product. This provides an even distribution of the active ingredient, while still keeping the fabric soft and pliable. These hydroxyl radicals attack microorganisms along several parallel pathways - simultaneously degrading the cell's protective bio film, rupturing the cellular membrane and disrupting the biological processes within the cell. Because the agent bonds with the fabric in its raw state, the agent's efficacy can withstand the rigor of repeated laundering.
