IntelliCell BioSciences, a US-based regenerative medicine firm using adult autologous stromal vascular fraction cells (SVFCs) derived from the blood vessels found in adipose tissue, has received notice that its patent application has been filed in Thailand for its stem cell extraction technology.
The stem cell extraction technology is a new mechanical method for the separation of stromal vascular fraction cells from blood vessels found in adipose (fat) tissue, without the use of enzymes.
According to company, vascular cells derived by its proprietary method are potentially useful in bringing regenerative medicine to several therapeutic and aesthetic procedures.
IntelliCell chairman and CEO Steven Victor said the company believes that the patent application will provide further protection worldwide of its regenerative medicine technology.
"Going forward, management will continue to increase awareness of the benefits that our proprietary stem cell technology can provide while improving the quality of life of patients with unmet clinical needs," Victor said.
"Receiving patent protection is an integral aspect of our business, as it guards against similar practices from our competitors."
The filing represents the fifth international patent application for this technology that the company has procured.
The Thailand application is entitled 'Ultrasonic Cavitation Derived Stromal or Mesenchymal Vascular Extracts and Cells Derived Therefrom Obtained from Adipose Tissue and Use Therof'.
The company has already developed its own patented technology and protocol to separate adult autologous vascular cells from adipose tissue without the use of enzymes, while it is now looking to develop technology-licensing agreements with technology developers, universities and international business entities.
