China based Build Your Dreams (BYD) Auto has incorporated BorgWarner's turbocharging technology into its first 1.5-litre gasoline direct-injection (GDI) engine.
According to BorgWarner, the KP39 turbocharger technology will allow the inline four-cylinder GDI engine to generate an output of 154hp and a 240 Nm torque.
The new technology is also expected to improve fuel economy of the engine over its predecessor and assist in complying with Euro 5 emissions standards.
BorgWarner Turbo Systems Passenger Car Products president and general manager Frederic Lissalde said, "BorgWarner's advanced turbocharging technologies for downsized gasoline engines help domestic manufacturers meet stringent emissions regulations while delivering powerful performance and fuel economy."
The KP39 turbocharger is equipped with a water-cooled bearing housing withstand the high exhaust temperatures, which allows the engine to offer smooth acceleration over the complete speed range of the engine.
BYD Auto has launched the new GDI engine BorgWarner's turbocharging technologies in its G6 sedan China and the new engine is also offered for other vehicle models.
