CSPM Under The Csc Group Will Supply 1.5 Tonnes of Titanium 64 Alloy Wire Products

Taiwan’s China Steel Precision Materials (CSPM) under the CSC Group will supply 1.5 tonnes of titanium 64 alloy wire products for Apple’s iPhone5, valued at NT$2.5 million (US$8.33 million) per tonne, 140 times that of typical carbon steel hot-rolled products, boosting CSPM’s operations.

CSPM’s chairman X.C. Wang pointed out that the firm’s titanium alloy products are mainly for downstream processing plants in China to produce fasteners, as well as high-end metals for iPhone5. In the future, the firm may supply Taiwanese smartphone vendors.

CSPM was set up by CSC (China Steel Corp.) and Walsin Lihwa Corp. in 2011 in Chagzhou, Jiangsu Province of China, mainly making titanium alloy, nickel alloy, and special steels reaching 6,000 tonnes annually.

In regard to product mix of titanium alloy, Wang noted that the firm’s titanium output reaches 2,000 tonnes annually, 70% of which for producing titanium seamless steel pipes, while 25% for titanium plates and cold rolled sheets for the petrochemical market.

Wang said that to fill downstream orders, CSPM will produce 600-kilogram titanium alloy wire-coils within a month to supply materials for iPhone5 fasteners, with 24 titanium screws required to manufacture an iPhone5.
