Italian car maker Fiat is planning to completely acquire the Chrysler Group by purchasing 41.5% shares from United Auto Workers trust fund in the US.
The company owns and manages the Chrysler Group with ownership of 58.5% of which it bought in 2009 and is in the process of negotiation for the remaining shares.
According to UBS estimate, the 41.5% stake is worth between $4.1bn and $5.5bn, while the company has offered $754m for the 16.4% of the shares owned by the trust where as the trust wants $1.7bn.
Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne was quoted by Reuters as saying that the company has always taken the position that it would have to pay them, but the question is price.
"It could raise additional money if needed by selling assets, citing Magneti Marelli, which had revenue of €5.8bn ($7.6bn) last year, as an operation that could be sold," Marchionne said.
The two companies are trying to get 3.32% of the shares of Chrysler group, while the total value of the group is estimated to be between $9bn and $13.4bn.
