International companies such as Trinity Industries plan a 30 percent increase in investments in Mexico, said the president of the Board of Directors of Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA), Alonso Ancira Elizondo, at the opening the Phoenix Project.
In reviewing the Phoenix Project--which required an investment of US$2.3 billion--during its inauguration on Thursday by President Enrique Pena Nieto in Monclova, Coahuila, the manager explained that these investments are expected to create more than 2,000 new jobs.
He also stressed that with this project, AHMSA now has the ability to supply slabs with dimensions and qualities required by large international companies, such as Caterpillar and Trinity Industries, as well as grow 40 percent to surpass the company's 5 million tons of steel produced annually.
President Nieto highlighted the project's importance for the Mexican economy, as it represents a link in the national chain by which companies will have more competitive products at lower prices.
