Aluminum rolling and recycling firm Novelis is planning to invest $100m to build a new automotive aluminum sheet manufacturing plant in Changzhou National Hi-Tech District, China.
Scheduled to start operations in late 2014, the new plant will have a capacity to produce aluminum sheet products of 120,000 metric tons per annum.
The new automotive sheet plant is being built to meet the demand for rolled aluminum used in lighter, fuel-efficient vehicles.
Before delivery to automotive customers within China as well as to export markets, Novelis' South Korean operations are expected to supply rolled aluminum coils for the new Changzhou facility for heat treatment and finishing.
Novelis Asia president Shashi Maudgal said "The new Novelis plant in China embraces the latest environmental features, including world class energy managements systems, solar hot water heating, CO2 control and best-in-class water efficiency."
