Global fashion brands have come under the scanner of a Chinese quality assessing body for failing quality and safety test trails.
An online statement from General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Office said, Forever 21, Zara, H&M and Mango failed quality and safety tests, Xinhua reported.
The statement said 12,305 cases of imported apparel, totalling to US $47.67 million failed quality tests in the first half of 2014.
Over 97 percent of the fashion brands which were tested, failed quality tests due to lack of clear instructions in Chinese on their labels.
If apparels are found to be potentially hazardous to consumers or the environment, they may fail safety tests.
1,442 imported children's garments failed quality tests after a significant portion failed to meet pH level standards, which can harm children's skin.
As per Chinese law, all imported apparel need to be inspected by the country's quality assessing body before they enter the Chinese market.
