Japanese automakerMitsubishi selects British Gas to provide EV charging solutions in UKover a safety software issue leading to malfunctioning of airbags.
Nearly 261 of the company's 2012 model i-MiEV EVs are affected by the recall due to an incompatibility between the airbag sensors and the self-diagnostic software, which may cause the airbags not to deploy during a crash.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the deactivation of airbag system would lead to illumination of a warning light to alert the driver.
Mitsubishi is also recalling some vehicles in Canada too over the similar issue.
The company said that its dealers in Canada and the US will replace the sensors of the affected vehicles free of cost.
