Adelaide City Council Has Dumped Plans to Power The Street Lights

Adelaide city council has dumped plans to power the street lights in a popular dog park using dog excrement.

Councillors instead opted to spend $120,000 on LED street lights in the North Adelaide Dog Park, deeming the poo-powered lights to be too expensive. The council report also questioned whether dogs would be able to produce enough excrement to light the whole park.

Under the original plan, dog owners were to drop the dog waste into a biogas generator which would convert it into energy.

"Administration recommends to not implement a Poo Power project at the North Adelaide Dog Park until more information is available on the viability of such an initiative,” the report said.

"Rather, the lighting design will incorporate energy efficient LED as a more effective and sustainable lighting option.”

The councillors have not given up on the poo plan altogether, though. Anne Moran, an Adelaide councillor, said: “One day I hope we will get the Poo Power up.”

"I’d like a pool too.”
