A series of enhancements have been announced for the 2014 Jaguar XJ range, with the focus on increasing the level of luxury and refinement the flagship limousine offers.
Most significant is the inclusion of powered airline-style individually reclining rear seats with a massage function (Wave/Rolling, Lumbar and Shoulder) and leather-surfaced fold-out business tables for long-wheelbase models.
There’s also more headroom and the rear suspension of the LWB XJ has been upgraded to improve ride comfort.
On-board features have also been improved, with a new rear-seat infotainment system option comprising two 10.2-inch high-resolution touchscreens and a 1300-watt 26-speaker Meridian audio system with Conversation Assist. This unique feature uses microphones in the headliner above each passenger to transmit voices through speakers, making it easier for occupants to hear each other.
A ZF eight-speed automatic transmission will be the standard fit across the entire XJ line-up, with Jaguar re-calibrating the gear ratios to make shifts smoother.
The 2014 Jaguar XJ also features JLR’s Intelligent Start-Stop system, which the company claims will restart in less time than it takes for the driver’s foot to move from the brake to the accelerator. The car also has a secondary battery on-board purely to power the start-stop system.
Jaguar’s luxury sedan will continue to be offered with a range of petrol and diesel 3.0-litre V6 engines, as well as two 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engines.
Rivals for the 2014 Jaguar XJ include the Audi A8, BMW 7-series, Maserati Quattroporte and Mercedes-Benz S-class.
