The most technologically advanced data centre in the world
Facebook is reportedly planning to build a $1.5bn data centre in Altoona, US, which will be company's fourth company owned data centre.
The data centre is said to be the most technologically advanced one in the world, according to the Des Moines Register.
Company plans to build the data centre in two phases with each phase costing about $500m, and when the entire project is completed the company would have invested about $1.5bn in the 1.4 million ft2 facility.
According to the reports, Facebook has also requested for Iowa tax credits for wind energy production, while the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board and the Altoona City Council are anticipated to consider incentives for the project.
The project has been code named as 'Catapult', and it will join other three company owned data centres: Prineville, Oregon; Forest City, North Carolina; and Lulea in Sweden.
The site for the centre is owned by the Hubbell Realty, has access to a 16-inch water line, and is situated near to a large MidAmerican Energy substation.
Earlier, Google has invested $1.1bn in centres in Council Bluffs, while Microsoft operates a data centre in West Des Moines, built at an investment of about $100m.
