Dome, a California-based commercial print solutions provider, has purchased two new high-volume inkjet printers from Electronics For Imaging (EFI) for its Sacramento facility.
The presses that have been bought by Dome for an undisclosed price are the EFI VUTEk FabriVU340 soft signage and VUTEk 5r roll-to-roll printers which will be installed at the newly renovated facility by the year end.
Dome will replace three models from different manufacturers with the two new presses after their installation. The EFI printers will be exclusively used by the company’s superwide-format inkjet graphics operation.
Dome president Misha Pavlov said: “We are going into uncharted waters for our company, and we don’t need a vendor, we need a partner to help us succeed.
“It’s a strategic move, for sure — EFI has invested in us, and us in them.”
According to EFI, the 5m wide VUTEk 5r model is a technically advanced LED roll-to-roll production offering. It is claimed to have the highest speed and resolution in its class and provides superior quality using EFI UltraDrop Technology 7-picoliter print heads.
On the other hand, the 3.4m wide VUTEk FabriVU 340 printer is expected to help Dome cater to the increasing customer demand for textile soft signage.
Dome chief marketing officer Bob Poole said: “The VUTEk FabriVU printer gives our customers a greener option with graphics that can be re-used rather than displayed once and thrown away.
“Fabric can be rolled into anything and shipped inexpensively where it needs to go, and then the customer can pop it in a frame on site.”
Dome is said to have made the purchase as part of a strategic re-invention of its business. The company is also looking to combine several locations into the new facility at Sacramento.
Additionally, Dome plans to open new company sales offices in Southern California and Chicago.
