Rockpool Licensing Has Secured Global Representation of Brambly Hedge

Gifting, homewares, collectables, puzzles and paper product will be initial focuses for classic children's property following deal with Rockpool Licensing.

Rockpool Licensing has secured global representation of Brambly Hedge, the classic children’s literary property from Four Seasons Licensing and Merchandising.

Over six million copies of Jill Barklem’s Brambly Hedge books have sold since the first release in 1980. In the mid-90s, Hit developed a series of six television specials and an international licensing programme flourished, particularly in the UK, US and Japan.

Rockpool and Four Seasons are working together with Harper Collins, publishers of the series since the very first edition, on new formats and consumer marketing plans for 2015 and beyond. Watermelon is on board to create a fresh style guide featuring Jill Barklem’s much-loved illustrations which Rockpool will be introducing to the trade for the first time at UK Toy Fair.

Vickie O’Malley, MD of Rockpool Licensing, said: “I have fallen in love with Brambly Hedge and Jill’s beautiful artwork. Our initial focus will be adult-targeted, tapping into the devoted following that Brambly Hedge enjoys with parents, gifters and collectors. At the shows, we’re hoping to meet potential partners across gifting, homewares, collectables, puzzles and paper product where there is a wonderful track record of international sales success.

“Jill’s illustrations, filled with charm and delicious detail, are a dream for product designers. The central themes of nature, crafting, foraging and community are as relevant today as they were in the 80s and 90s, if not more so. This treasure trove of artwork captures seasonal themes, weddings and engagements, baking, new babies and birthdays. Brambly Hedge and represents a wonderfully rich opportunity for licensees.”

Lizzie Barklem, MD of Four Seasons and Jill Barklem’s daughter, added: "We are thrilled to have Vickie on the team. Her depth of knowledge of the licensing industry will be invaluable as we try to bring mum’s beautiful artwork and stories to life. We have had so many requests from Brambly Hedge fans for merchandise to return to the shelves and we hope that we can develop a significant licensing programme over coming years."

Since Harper Collins published the first book in 1980, Brambly Hedge has sold over six million copies has been translated into 13 languages.
