UK-based packaging designer and manufacturer Alexir Partnership will introduce its new modified atmosphere board-based food tray produced as part of a joint project between the company and Proseal.
According to Alexir, the new packaging format 'AlexiMAP' has undergone various trials to meet the market need for MAP compliant lightweight carton board food trays.
AlexiMAP is said to offer features including suitability for food contact and the possibility to print on the inside and outside of the tray that can be manufactured in various shapes and sizes.
Unlike conventional board trays, the horizontal sealing flanges of the new tray is claimed to reduce manual handling in packing.
Alexir Partnership technical manager Steve King said the new MAP compliant packaging format is suitable for direct food contact and allows reverse print solutions.
"It also opens the door to multiple shapes and sizes presenting the brand owner with prime marketing opportunities," King added.
The company will introduce its new product at the Packaging Innovations show to be held from 26-27 February 2014 at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
