India International Leather Fair – Delhi 2014 will be held from 3rd to 5th July, 2014 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. It will have on display the entire range of products relating to leather industry from raw material to finished products and auxiliary products, such as finished leather, footwear, shoe components like uppers, soles, heels, counters, lasts; machinery and equipment, process technology, software, chemicals and publications.
The fourth in the annual series, the fair is expected to have 200 participants. The business visitors will surely be attracted to see the exhibits displayed by more than 150 companies, including over 50 from foreign countries.
The leather sector is among the top ten foreign exchange earners for the country and has an annual turnover of over US$ 8.5 billon. Exports of leather and its products increased manifold over the past few decades and touched US$ 4.99 billion in 2012-13, recording a cumulative annual growth rate of about 8.54% (5 years).
There is an abundance of raw material as India is endowed with 21% of cattle & buffalo and 11% of world goal and sheep population. It is an employment intensive sector, providing jobs to about 2.5 million people, mostly from the weaker sections of the society.
India is the second largest producer of footwear and leather garments in the world and accounts for a share of close to 3.05% in the global leather import trade of US$ 159.89 billion (2011).
India produces over two billion sq ft of leather annually and some varieties of goat / calf / sheep skins command premium position. The country has a strong and eco-sustainable tanning base, modernized manufacturing units and trained & skilled manpower is available at competitive wage levels.
It has world-class institutional support for Design & Product Development, HRD and R&D. It has a strong presence of support industries like leather chemicals and finishing auxiliaries and exports to major markets across the globe and is considered as a strategic location in the Asian continent.
Among emerging strengths, there are design development initiatives by institutions and individuals; continuous modernization and technology up-gradation; rise in economic size of manufacturing units; constant human resource development programmes to enhance productivity; increase in use of quality components; shorter prototype development time; delivery compliance and a growing domestic market for footwear and leather articles.
The organizer of India International Leather Fair is India Trade Promotion Organization, the nodal trade promotion agency of the Government of India, which has been charting a multi-dimensional course in conformity with its mandated role playing a multi-faceted role in bringing out the strengths of the Indian economy through a focused seven band spectrum of activity.
