Bright LED Landed Orders for One Billion Infrared LED Sensor Modules Worth NT$2 Billion

LED chip packaging house Bright Led Electronics has landed orders for one billion infrared LED sensor modules worth NT$2 billion (US$66.7 million) through a China-based maker of LED whiteboards, with shipments to be finished in two years, according to the company.

The China-based whiteboard maker has partnered with Bright Led to win government open-bids for whiteboards for elementary and high schools in China, Bright Led indicated. Bright Led said it started shipments of four million units in May and will hike monthly shipments beginning in July.

Bright Led has a monthly production capacity of 200 million infrared LED devices, 500 million SMD LED devices and 150 million photo couplers. Overall capacity utilization stands at 60-70% in the second quarter and is expected to rise in the third, Bright Led noted.

Bright Led suffered a net loss per share of NT$0.06 for the first quarter of 2013, recording net losses for six consecutive quarters. In order to turn operations profitable, Bright Led has focused marketing in 2013 on LED lighting.
