APTMA:Textile Mills Are Likely to Face Further Losses Due to Energy Crisis in The Sector

APTMA Fears Further Loss to Punjab Textile Mills

The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has said that the textile mills in the Punjab province of Pakistan are likely to face further losses due to energy crisis in the sector.

Spokesperson of APTMA said the electricity load-shedding has increased from four hours in a day to 12 hours a day in the Punjab province, while the gas supply to the mills has declined from four days a week to two days a week.

The limited power and gas supply has led to a major fall in employment, export potential, growth and investment in the Punjab’s textile sector, which is a textile hub in Pakistan.

The decline in productivity of the textile industries of the Punjab region has forced employers to reduce their workforce, resulting in 50 percent reduction in production, making the industry unable to meet export commitments.

In view of the prevailing situation, APTMA has requested the Prime Minister of Pakistan and other Government officials to provide uninterrupted electricity and gas supply to the textile mills of Punjab.

The Pakistan textile industry accounts for more than 50 percent of the country’s total export earnings and accounts for around 40 percent of jobs in the manufacturing sector of the country.
