With the increase in demand for organic cotton and sustainable garments, the apparel makers are focusing on creating new and innovative styles with sustainable blend. The yoga clothing producers talk about the need for sustainability in yoga clothes along with style, comfort and technological advancements.
Ms. Terry Matera, director of clothing and accessories at Gaiam, a lifestyle brand that sells products catered toward health and sustainable living, told fibre2fashion, “Our customers have been very vocal about wanting more organic cotton products and the challenge is making technologically advanced styles in better or equal versions with sustainable blends.”
“Our consumers are willing to spend a little more and there is an increase in demand for organic or eco fabrics that are comfortable, have a freedom of movement and can take the wearer to and from class with style,” she informs.
According to Sevda Holland, founder of Prancing Leopard Organics, a manufacturer of yoga clothes and fitness apparels, yoga clothes should express joy as well as taste and fashion. But besides stunning style, customers are expecting very high levels of comfort and cradle-to-cradle sustainability.
Similarly Manuka, an eco-conscious proactive company that creates yoga-inspired clothing and accessories also stresses on the importance of creating products that are sustainable and non-toxic.
"The underlying aim in creating sustainable yoga clothing is to provide the best possible products to accompany people on their physical and spiritual journey to wholeness,” said Leonie Ellyatt, founder of Manuka, in a statement.
