DO you know of any street lights which are not working?

As the nights draw in and the clocks are due to go back this weekend, council engineers are asking for the public to keep an eye out for faulty street lights.

Typically around 99 per cent of the council’s 41, 000 lights and illuminated signs are working as planned at any one time – but as with any bulb, there will be the inevitable failure.

Council deputy leader Coun David Molyneux said: “The borough has one of the most successful and eco-friendly street lighting services in the region. I’m asking residents to please report any issues directly to us – and we promise a fast response to sort it. ”

The council aims to repair a street lighting fault within three working days. On average, 90 per cent are fixed immediately. Some can take a little longer if the power supply has failed because a separate company, Electricity North West, must repair their mains equipment.

Coun Molyneux adds: “Street lighting increases the sense of safety for residents and we’re proud that for virtually the last decade, it has all been powered by green renewable energy. ”

To report faults call 01942 404331 or via email at eshelpline@wigan. Gov. Uk or go to the council’s local life centres at Leigh Town Hall or the Atherton Life Centre. Provide the street name, column number (shown on the column at eye level) and/or house location of the unit being reported.
