Rohm Semiconductor Has Introduced The Smlx Family

Rohm Semiconductor has introduced the SMLx family of low current, high brightness chip LEDs for automotive cluster and indicator applications. The SMLTx , SMLMs and SMLZ families emit OEM colors including: blue lagoon, ice blue, sapphire blue and blue green, and InGaN-based pure green. Various package sizes and types are available to enable an optimum solution. The luminous intensity (mcd) of the LEDs is up to 4800. The operating temperature range is -40° to +100°. and the peak forward current IFP ranges from 100 to 300mA. Reverse voltage VR is from 5-12V.

The company has also developed the BD8377 LED driver series, the first product of a new family of automotive indicator LED drivers. The 12-channel 50mA/ch LED driver comes in a small SSOP-B20 package. It supports cascade connections in order to increase the number of channels and the number of LEDs which can be driven and controlled. The devices also feature a 35V DMOS Open Drain output MOSFET for multiple driving and efficient power saving as well as low EMC noise with an output slew rate of 20V/µs. Rohm reports that it is already developing the next generation versions of the BD8377, which will add advanced diagnostic and dimming functions.
