Sustainability, one of the major topics among current trends in the furnishings and textile sector will apply in equal measure for the world's largest trade fair for home and contract textiles, Heimtextil.
Heimtextil, which runs from January 14-17 January, 2015, will be devoted to the whole issue of sustainability, with inspiring special displays, interesting events and targeted help in finding bearings in the subject.
To begin with, Heimtextil will release 'Green Directory', a data of suppliers of sustainable home and interior textiles that contains an overview of all exhibitors at the show who espouse the cause of sustainable working practices.
Next is the 'Green Village', a centre of excellence for sustainability, a platform dedicated to bodies which award sustainability seals of approval and quality marks.
Visitors to the Village can get more information on sustainability and moreover, they will also get professional advice here on sustainability issues directly from experts in the field.
Another feature is the 'Theme Park', which according to the organisers is becoming the new, central, inspirational forum at the forthcoming Heimtextil.
The 'Theme Park' will focus attention on design-oriented and contemporary aspects. Irene Vermeulen, designer and trend expert, will be giving guided tours of the 'Theme Park', focusing specifically on issues of sustainability.
Visitors will be able to see how sustainability is linked with the whole issue of 'experience', and get to see some concrete examples of selected sustainable materials.
One more project is the 'Young Creations Award: Upcycling' aimed at new blood in the sector and honours the best works of up and coming international designers, with a spotlight on issues relating to textiles, sustainability and design.
On January 16, Heimtextil has organised 'Sustainability Friday'. It will see lectures and discussion groups to foster considerations of sustainability, social standards and corporate social responsibility.
On Thursday, January 15, Heimtextil visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a 'Green Tour' around the show.
Max Gilgenmann, consultant for sustainability in the textile and fashion industry, will offer insights into the latest trends and market developments in this segment in the tour. (AR)
