Germany based manufacturer of primary plastic packaging Sanner has introduced new closure for effervescent packaging.
The new FOG 27 senior-friendly closure is designed for nutritional supplements such as vitamins or minerals.
A study by the German Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organization revealed that more than 90% of senior citizens face difficulty in opening consumer packaging and three-quarters of users criticized the handling properties of opening mechanisms in particular.
Sanner product manager Ursula Hahn said: "For producers of food supplements this is a decisive factor.
"In case of bad experiences with the packaging, repurchase rates decline considerably."
To address the issue, the new closure has been developed which uses only a third of the effort to open, making it easier for older users.
A test was conducted by the market research institutes Quo Vadis and Packaging Intelligence for the new FOG 27 closure.
The test surveyed 120 people who purchase and consume vitamin, mineral or painkiller tablets up to three times a month.
Upon completion, 87% of the participants confirmed the intuitive opening of the FOG 27, which also ensures full product protection.
Sanner said that the participants comparative study confirmed that the new closure can be opened in about a third of the time, requiring 70% less physical effort when compared with conventional closures.
The company said that new closure, when combined with its Brilliance Tubes, provides all-in-one solution for highest convenience at point-of-sale for customers.
Decorated using in-mold labelling (IML) technology, the Brilliance Tubes offer photorealistic printing with endless design varieties.
In 2015, Sanner has developed Brilliance, a new packaging solution for effervescent tablets.
