The biggest institute for apparel training, the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), which has more than 170 centers across India and trains more than 50,000 students annually, has become affiliated to the Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMH SSC).
During a recently held ceremony, the affiliation certificate was handed over by Dr A Sakthivel, Chairman of AMH SSC to Virender Uppal, Chairman, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) in the presence of various government and ATDC officials.
AMH SSC has been formulated by the Ministry of Textiles to develop skills repository for the apparel value chain, national occupational standards, establish well-structured sector specific labour market information system and improvise the training delivery value chain.
The mandate given to AMH SSC includes creation of national occupational standards, affiliating training providers in apparel trainings and assessing and certifying the trainees of such institutes and training providers.
ATDC, which functions under the aegis of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), currently runs around 175 ATDCs, including 65 ATDC vocational institutes and over 135 ATDC-SMART Centres and Skill Camps, in major apparel clusters spread across 22 states and 85 cities pan-India.
Recently, ATDC signed a MoU with All India Council of Technical Training (AICTE), to offer B. Voc Programmes in Apparel Manufacturing & Entrepreneurship and Fashion Design & Retailing in an attempt to reduce growing gaps between skilled manpower requirements and availability. (AR)
