In an effort to expose the abundant natural fiber resources available in the Greater Bay Area, Fibershed presents the Fibershed Fashion Gala- a “Soil-to-Skin” sustainable fashion event featuring the collaborative works of top local designers and local farmers.
Reimagining a new era of fashion, the Fibershed Fashion Gala demonstrates the potential of a regenerative fashion supply chain-- one that ensures the production of climate beneficial clothing for local human populations. This farm-to-fashion inspired event will take place Saturday, December 14th, 2013 from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm at Jacuzzi Family Winery in Sonoma, California.
Representing the beauty cultivated on the California landscape, the event will include a 30’s themed runway show featuring one-of-a-kind garments made entirely of California derived fibers such as wool and organic cotton that were grown on local farms, and dyed with locally grown natural dyes.
The Fashion Gala will also include a live auction, and a shopping marketplace featuring our fashion gala designers and farmers, as well as sustainable goods and services from local Bay Area businesses. In addition to regionally sourced fashions, guests will enjoy organic appetizers and locally distilled beverages from our bioregion. Live music will be provided by The Emily Anne Band, from San Francisco.
All proceeds from the event will support Fibershed’s 2014 ‘Soil to Soil’ Projects for durable farmed goods. Possible projects include:
- Life cycle assessment of Fibershed and conventional fabrics - Grazing research for land management and carbon sequestration - Cool weather colored cotton breading program - Open source patterns for cut & sew with zero waste - Colorado hemp fiber feasibility study and LCA -Natural dye feasibility study.
