It’s reported that Brazilian Gerdau's mining division intends to export 1.5 million tons of iron ore this year. The company has two shipments scheduled for the current quarter through Vale’s port system.
Gerdau sold its iron ore products abroad for the first time in the last quarter of 2012. André Gerdau Johannpeter, the CEO of Gerdau said that as the company has kept looking at port options to ship production, there wasn’t any export in the first quarter of the year. It’s said that that Brazilian mining company MMX confirmed talks with Gerdau for an agreement in port utilization.
However, Gerdau said that the company is looking for opportunities in existing or to-be-delivered ports. Also, the company plans to extend its ore annual capacity to 11.5 million tons this year and to 18 million tons by 2016.
