In August this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 1.7144 million units and 1.7156 million units, down 0.3 percent and up six percent month on month respectively, while up 2.2 percent and four percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). In the first eight months of the year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China totaled 15.2189 million units and 15.0173 million units, up by 8.6 percent and 7.7 percent year on year respectively, with these growth rates 2.9 and 3.6 percentage points lower compared to the same period last year.
In particular, the output and sales volumes of passenger vehicles in China in August this year totaled 1.4810 million units and 1.4682 million units, increasing by 0.6 percent and 8.1 percent month on month respectively, while up 6.7 percent and 8.5 percent year on year. In the January-August period of the year, the output and sales volumes of passenger vehicles in China totaled 12.6618 million units and 12.4595 million units, up 11.6 percent and 10.7 percent year on year, respectively.
As for commercial vehicles, domestic output and sales in August this year amounted to 233,400 units and 247,400 units, down 5.8 percent and 4.9 percent month on month, while decreasing by 19.4 percent and 16.4 percent on year-on-year basis, respectively. In the first eight months, domestic output and sales of commercial vehicles in China amounted to 2.5571 million mt and 2.5578 million mt, down 3.9 percent and five percent year on year.
Meanwhile, also in August, China's auto export volume amounted to 68,100 units, down 5.1 percent month on month and decreasing by 3.5 percent year on year, including 40,900 passenger vehicles and 27,200 commercial vehicles, up 3.4 percent and down 15.5 percent on month-on-month basis, while down 1.1 percent and seven percent year on year, respectively. In the first eight months of the year, China's auto export volume totaled 584,800 units, down 8.4 percent year on year.
