Soul by Ludacris headphones are endorsed by American rapper/actor Ludacris(aka Christopher Brian Bridge)and Signeo USA.We reviewed the SL150 headphones,one of five models said to be suitable for use in live-sound situations,such as performances and studio work.It's a bold claim by the manufacturer,putting Soul by Ludacris directly up against some tough competition from high-end players such as Sennheiser,Ultrasone and AKG,all renowned for their superior audio quality.

The packaging boasts of studio-level sound quality,yet no technical specifications are provided as evidence.You won't be able to glean the frequency response,impedance and weight of these headphones without further research-even then,you may struggle.Given the APS189 price tag,that's important.These headphones are a serious investment-but for the audiophile or the fashion-conscious?
Our testing suggests purists may be dissatisifed with these cans.For our money,we'd expect something in the way of noise-cancelling circuitry(get the SL300 if this is important to you).And the SL150 offers only modest performance;while it does a good job capturing the mids,highs and lows,some colouration of the sound is present.The thick bass boost is well suited to rock,pop and dance music,however.
There is a range of colours to choose from and several useful accessories thrown into the box,including a carry case,a cleaning cloth and two 1.2m tangle-free audio cables-one with an-inline remote control for use with iPad,iPhone and iPod,the second for other devices with a 3.5mm audio jack.
