Kia Motors global sales for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles increased 13.4% to 245,238 units in March 2012, compared to corresponding period last year.
In March 2012, sales in general markets increased 8% to 44,522 units, sales in Korea decreased by 8.8% to 42,050 units, sales in North America rose by 29.4% to 64,133 units, Europe sales were up by 19.3% to 54,106 units and China sales increased by 19.1% to 40,427 units.
Kia Motors posted the C-segment Cerato sales of 29,429 units for March this year, the B-segment Rio and Sorento mid-size CUV follow with 42,771 and 18,437 units sold, respectively.
The company said that the Sportage compact CUV sales were 32,325 units for the month, while the D-segment Optima sedan reported sales of 24,333 units.
Kia Motors executive vice president and COO Tae-Hyun (Thomas) Oh said that the company is pleased to have continued sales growth in the first quarter of 2012, especially in North America where Kia Motors America set an all-time monthly sales record last month.
"We are confident that delivering world-class design, vastly improved quality and outstanding fuel economy in these times of rising oil prices are among several factors contributing to our strong growth in the first quarter of the year," Oh said.
