CFDA & Google APP Was Designed to Deepen Engagement Between Designers and Consumers

The CFDA is working with Google on an exclusive new experience, the ability to shop Google+ Hangouts On Air, designed to deepen engagement between designers and consumers. This new shopping app for Hangouts On Air (HOA) brings together social media and e-commerce.

Designers or retailers can publicly broadcast a multi-person video chat about their products while customers simultaneously browse a curated selection of products available for purchase online, exclusively through the HOA. As the retail industry enters the holiday season, this app will help retailers engage with consumers directly around key items or trends they want to highlight.

Lorraine Twohill, VP Global Marketing for Google says “We’re thrilled to be working with Diane von Furstenberg and the Council of Fashion Designers of America on this Hangout and to provide her fans with this one of a kind shopping experience. DVF has done an amazing job of creating an unprecedented experience through a number of Google technologies such as Google Glass and Google+ Hangouts. This is just another fantastic experience for our growing Google+ fashion community.”

The CFDA’s president, Diane von Furstenberg will launch this innovative new app on Thursday, October 3 at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST from her New York City studio, where she will reveal three current trends.

Five of DVF’s biggest fans will be chosen to have the exclusive opportunity to participate in the chat and interact with von Furstenberg directly. In order to have the chance to be chosen, fans will be asked to submit a form on the DVF website.

“I’m thrilled to be able to launch this new product in partnership with Google+ and the CFDA,” says Diane von Furstenberg. “I have always been about dialogue and this is a fabulous way to communicate with your customer!”

Other CFDA Members confirmed to participate in the Google+ and CFDA initiative are: Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of rag & bone, Rebecca Minkoff, and Rachel Zoe. “At a time when fashion and technology are inextricably intertwined, this was the perfect opportunity for the CFDA to partner with Google+ to change the way people think about shopping and greatly benefit our Members” says Steven Kolb, Chief Executive Officer of the CFDA.
