Milk production of the US has increased to 51.95 billion pounds in the quarter to June (Q2) of 2013, up by 0.9%, compared to milk production of 51.5 billion pounds in the same period of 2012, according to report released by National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
However, milk production for the first quarter to March 2013, had declined to 50.5 billion pounds, down by 1.1%, compared to the milk production of 51 billion pounds in the first quarter of 2012.
Milk production in 23 major states of the US for July 2013 has increased to 15.674 billion pounds, up 1.2%, compared to milk production of 15.495 billion pounds in the same period in 2012.
The report also includes revised milk production of 15.8 billion pounds for June 2013, up 1.7%, compared to 15.8 billion pounds in July 2012.
Dairy analyst Dave Kurzawski was quoted by dairyherd.com as saying: "While we think this report is bearish versus expectations, 1.2 percent milk production growth is not overwhelming for current dairy market futures prices right now."
