Tridonic, under the auspices of the Zumtobel Group, has signed an agreement to acquire all of the shares from its partners in the joint venture Ledon OLED.
Zumtobel set up the Ledon OLED business with the Fraunhofer research organisation in 2009, to develop and manufacture high-efficiency OLED lighting modules. The Leden OLED products is part of the Zumtobel Group’s lighting components business, Tridonic. Ledon OLED products have already been marketed under the Tridonic brand name.
Earlier this year Tridonic launched the Lureon REP OLED module
Now that Zumtobel has purchased all of the remaining shares in the business, the company will be given the new name of Tridonic Dresden. Managing directors Jrg Amelung and Patrik Danz will continue to head the company, which currently employs 11 people at its headquarters in Dresden - one of Europe’s major centres for OLED technology.
A company statement said that Ledon OLED will aim to take the development of OLED light sources through to the stage where OLED modules are ready for use in widespread professional applications. Since the company was founded, a wide range of OLED module series have been developed and marketed worldwide. The beginning of this year saw the market launch of what the company claims is the world’s most efficient OLED module for professional lighting: the Lureon REP product series.
“OLED is one of the technologies of the future where general lighting solutions are concerned. It provides the perfect fit with our strategy for LED modules. This is in line with our aspiration to develop visionary solutions for our customers based on cutting-edge technologies,” said Tridonic CEO Alfred Felder.
