A one-stop silk park would be developed in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand at a cost of Rs. 140 million, with the Union and the state governments sharing the cost in 80:20 ratio.
The Central Government’s part of the funds would come from its Assistance to State for Developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (Modified ASIDE) Scheme.
The silk park to come up on five acres of land in the outskirts of the city would be the first such park to be set up in the state’s capital Ranchi.
Jharkhand Silk, Textile and Handloom Development Corporation, commonly called Jharcraft, will serve as the nodal agency for developing the Ranchi silk park.
Jharkhand is the largest producer of tussar silk in India, contributing about 65 percent to the country’s overall produce.
The planned silk park would cover entire silk value chain at one place and would consist of a cocoon bank; drying, processing, reeling and spinning units; yarn dyeing and bleaching facilities; as well as fabric weaving units.
A part of the fabric produced would cater to the apparel unit, located inside the park, to create ready-to-wear garments.
In addition, the textile park would also have packaging and storing units, a common R&D facility, an administrative block, and facilities for testing, design and training.
Besides the Ranchi silk park, Jharcraft has put forward a proposal to set up three more silk parks—one each at Giridih, Jasidih and Kharsawan.
