The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake has been spied almost completely free of camouflage, uncovering the forthcoming wagon body style of the premium German brand's compact 'four-door coupe'.
Like the larger CLS Shooting Brake, the CLA Shooting Brake features a coupe-inspired sloping roofline and a stubby tailgate and rear overhang, creating a profile that blends more conventional hatchback and wagon lines.
The CLA wagon's heavily raked tailgate follows the line of its squat tail-lights, which mirror those of the sedan.
Set to launch in 2015, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake will become the fifth and final model built on the luxury car maker's MFA platform, following the CLA sedan, A-Class hatch, B-Class MPV and GLA compact SUV.
The spied test car is believed to be the CLA250 Sport Shooting Brake grade, featuring the same diamond-pattern grille, sports bumpers and skirts and large rear diffuser as its sedan equivalent.
The CLA Shooting Brake line-up is expected to mirror that of the sedan, which in Australia is available in 115kW/250Nm 1.6-litre petrol CLA200 and 265kW/450Nm 2.0-litre CLA45 AMG specifications, as well as 100kW/300Nm 1.8-litre diesel CLA200 CDI trim from February and 155kW/350Nm 2.0-litre CLA250 Sport grade from April.
Mercedes-Benz Australia says the CLA Shooting Brake remains unconfirmed at this stage, but says it will definitely put its hand up for the new body style if and when it is approved for production.
Meanwhile, the local division says supply of the CLA sedan remains tight and is likely to remain that way until mid 2014 after all four variants come on board.
