Swedish food processing and packaging company Tetra Pak has supplied its processing and packaging equipment for Fonterra’s NZ$100m ($77m) ultra high temperature (UHT) greenfield plant in Waitoa, New Zealand.
Tetra Pak commercial operations executive vice president Nils Bjrkman said high quality, nutritious milk from New Zealand is sought after in countries across the region.
"We are excited to continue to identify new opportunities and to deliver world-class integrated Processing and Packaging solutions to meet the growing need for safe, quality food products by consumers in this vibrant region," Bjrkman added.
The new plant will comprise five new UHT lines producing a range of products including white milk and cream for the foodservice sector.
According to Tetra Pak, the plant is expected to commence production of its first milk by the middle of 2014 and is set to double Fonterra's UHT production capacity. It will produce milk for export markets in Asia.
