Chilled prepared foods manufacturer Bakkavor has opened a food processing facility and farm in the Fujian and Jiangsu provinces of China, as part of its efforts to boost capacity of its Asian business.
The new facilities will complement the company's existing Asian business in China and Hong Kong and also enable Bakkavor to increase capacity in line with one of its key customer's rapid growth plans in Asia.
The company stated that the new farm will provide a substantial proportion of fresh produce required as well as improve Bakkavor's control over the quality of its raw materials.
Bakkavor chief executive officer Agust Gudmundsson said that the investment reflects the company's ongoing commitment to the Asian market.
"The development of fresh prepared foods in China represents a fantastic opportunity for Bakkavor and we see a real, and growing, demand for our expertise," Gudmundsson added.
Bakkavor is involved in manufacturing of private label prepared foods for grocery retailers and international foodservice operators.
