As notebook brand vendors including Asustek Computer, Lenovo, Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Micro-Star International (MSI) have been using Ultra HD panels for their high-end models, the increasing adoption is likely to drive down related panel prices, according to supply chain makers.
Seeing competition growing fierce and China-based Huawei and Xiaomi also planning to enter the notebook market, Asustek has been adopting Ultra HD panels for its high-end notebooks to differentiate, and is also planning to do so for its mid-range models.
Instead of flooding the market with multiple models, Asustek's new strategy is to focus its resources to push 1-2 models which is expected to give Asustek more bargaining power with upstream suppliers as well as improve the company's inventory management.
Dell has also been pushing its high-end XPS series notebooks using Ultra HD OGS touchscreen display.
