Turkey's Steel Exports Decreased by 7.3 Percent Year on Year to 10.8 Million Mt

In the January-July period of this year, Turkey's steel exports decreased by 7.3 percent year on year to 10.8 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $9.2 billion, down 4.2 percent, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the given period, Turkey's steel pipe exports totaled 1.06 million mt, up 1.8 percent, and its long steel exports increased by a slight margin of 0.1 percent to 6.67 million mt, while flat steel exports decreased by 8.2 percent to 1.47 million mt, and billet exports decreased by 71.1 percent to 256,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the first seven months of the current year, Turkey's slab exports surged to 25,000 mt, while no slab exports were recorded from the country in the same period of 2013.

In July alone, Turkey's steel exports decreased by 1.9 percent year on year to 1.45 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $1.25 billion, down 4.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given period, Turkey's billet exports decreased by 26.6 percent to 61,000 mt and long steel exports declined by 8.7 percent to 842,000 mt, both compared to July 2013. Also in July this year, Turkey's flat steel exports decreased by 2.1 percent to 184,000 mt and its steel pipe exports totaled 149,000 mt, up 2.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

On the other hand, in the first seven months of this year, Turkey's steel exports exceeded its steel imports by 34 percent, up six percentage points compared to the same period last year. In July alone, Turkey's steel exports exceeded its steel imports by 35 percent, up 25 percentage points from July last year.
