U.S. Retail Sales rose 3.0% from the prior year for the week ended Sep. 13, but were down 2.6% from the prior week, according to the Intl.
Council of Shopping Centers/Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Index. Sales were strong for wholesale clubs, dollar, discount, electronics and furniture stores as Back-to-School demand waned and the retail market waited for fall apparel demand to kick in. ICSC/Goldman Sachs continues to forecast a 4 to 5% increase in September U.S. retail sales.
