The production versions of the all-new Honda MDX and Honda Odyssey will be unveiled at this month’s New York auto show, in an effort by the Japanese car maker to strengthen its place in both the three-row luxury SUV and people-mover segments.
A follow up to the Honda MDX Prototype seen at the 2013 Detroit auto show (pictured below), the new seven-seat Honda MDX sits on a completely new platform with a longer wheelbase promising improvements in ride comfort, cabin versatility, second-row legroom, third-row seat access, performance and fuel efficiency.
Power will come from a 3.5-litre direct-injection i-VTEC V6 engine, with Variable Cylinder Management. For the first time, a front-wheel-drive option will be offered alongside the traditional four-wheel-drive variants, in a move that will lower both the entry price and fuel consumption of the full-sized family SUV.
As CarAdvice reported late last year, the new Honda MDX isa chance to return to local shores in 2014.
Joining the MDX on Honda’s show stand will also be the updated US-spec Honda Odyssey minivan – a car that differs from the identically named local version – and the recently launched Honda Accord Plug-In and all-electric Honda Fit EV.
