According to data released by Brazil’s customs, Brazil imported 97,000 tons of steel products in June, slumping by 36% from May.
Industry source indicated that the slumped import of steel products was caused by depreciated Brazilian Real, higher import duty and slowdown in domestic economy.
In June, the country’s imports of coated steel sheets totaled 42,000 tons; those of cold rolled sheets/coils were at 12,000 tons and those of hot rolled coils were at 4,000 tons.
In the first half of this year, Brazil’s shipments of steel products totaled 884,000 tons, decreasing by 37% year on year.
