Confluence Outdoor Appointed Alistair Thorburn as Managing Director

Confluence Outdoor began the new year by appointing Alistair Thorburn as managing director, international beginning on Jan. 1. Thorburn brings more than three decades of relevant leadership experience to his new role at Confluence, with a successful track record of growing the international presence of major sporting goods companies.

“As Confluence continues to grow internationally, strategic decision making and strong leadership become more important,” said Sue Rechner, President and CEO of Confluence Outdoor. “Alistair is a balanced and well-seasoned leader who brings significant international experience and knowledge to our organization. He has led several companies through growth initiatives in international markets and Confluence looks forward to the benefit of his invaluable experience. Alistair is a great fit into our leadership team and we are excited to have him on board.”

In his new post, Thorburn, who will be based in the U.K., will lead all aspects of international business growth and development and will be tasked with meeting Confluence’s international growth goals.

Prior to joining Confluence Outdoor, Thorburn served as the international president of Pure Fishing, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of fishing tackle. Similar to Confluence, Pure Fishing is made up of multiple, distinct brands that each brings unique value to the company. Thorburn was responsible for 19 country subsidiary operations with hundreds of employees. His knowledge of fishing will be a valuable asset to Confluence, and provides a tremendous opportunity to drive growth in this category. Thorburn has further experience as president and COO of Prince Sports, Inc., executive vice president of Converse, vice president Europe and Asia of Wilson Sporting Goods and international marketing director of Dunlop Sports.

Confluence Outdoor owns nine unique watersports brands: Wilderness Systems, Perception, Dagger, and Wave Sport kayaks, Mad River Canoe, Adventure Technology paddles, Bomber Gear and Harmony accessories, and Boardworks. With a full representation of canoes, kayaks, surf and stand up paddle boards, and paddling apparel and accessories, all ranging from touring and recreational to high-performance whitewater products, the Confluence brands are well suited to fully outfit paddling enthusiasts throughout all phases of their paddling life.
