MMK Announces That It Is Carrying out Hot Run Tests on Two New Heating Furnaces

Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it is carrying out hot run tests on two new heating furnaces as a part of the reconstruction of its hot rolling mill 2500. During the reconstruction of the mill in question, MMK plans to commission three new furnaces to replace the current six heating furnaces.

MMK plans to put two furnaces into operation and to start commercial production in the April-May period of this year. The producer of the new heating furnaces is Italian company Tenova, while the producer of the main processing equipment is the Ukraine-based Novokramatorsk machinery plant.

Once the reconstruction of the mill 2500 is completed, MMK’s annual production capacity is expected to increase to 5.5 million mt from the current 4.0 million mt.
