Germany's Government Switch Subsidies to Rooftop Systems

Germany may stop all incentives for ground-mounted large-size solar installations in 2013.Hence,In September, installations in Germany which were close to 1GW,more than 80%of the systems were large-size systems. As Germany's government switch subsidies to rooftop systems, estimated monthly installations of rooftop systems in Germany will be around 200-300MW.

Solar makers noted that in Germany,large-size systems on special land that applied for licenses before February 24,2012 will need to complete installation before the end of September to be eligible for the higher solar incentive in January 2012.Systems that have only completed installation of the modules and have yet to be connected to the grid will also be eligible for the higher incentive.

The time limit has caused many large-size systems with licenses to be completed rapidly.September installations in Germany were close to 980MW,said solar firms, and in particular,800MW of systems were larger than 1MW and only 180MW of the total were residential or commercial roof-top type systems. This means systems larger than 1MW accounted for 81.63%of total installations in Germany in September 2012.

Solar firms noted that China-based solar firms have been focused on large-size systems, therefore, even without the trade war,China-based peers will face a shortage of orders. This means Taiwan will have to reduce its reliance on orders from China.
