Texas based oilfield services company Baker Hughes Incorporated said that the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the US fell this week by one to 1,799.
Baker Hughes said Friday that 1,381 were exploring for oil and 416 were searching for gas. Two were listed as miscellaneous. That's a 32% drop from Baker Hughes tally from a year ago of 2,019 rigs.
Texas lost five rigs, Oklahoma lost three rigs and Arkansas shut down one rig this week. West Texas Intermediate crude priced at Oklahoma's Cushing pipeline hub closed the week up nearly one percent Friday, at USD 86.73 a barrel.
