The Duty-Free Quota Has Been Depleted at About The Same Rate as Last Year So Far in 2013

The duty-free quota for softwood plywood imports into the EU has been depleted at about the same rate as last year so far in 2013, the European Commission’s DG Taxation and Customs Union has announced. Some 134,417 m3 or 21% of the total of 650,000 m3 had been used up by 16 January 2013. Roughly 137,544 m3 of softwood plywood had been imported duty-free into the EU by 16 January 2012, with the total rising to almost 182,000 m3 by the end of that month. The uptake of the quota slowed significantly thereafter, meaning that it was not depleted until 24 July 2012, later than in years’ past.
