Bunge Sets up New Packaging Facility in Decatur, Alabama

Bunge North America has opened its new packaging facility in Decatur, Alabama, in a bid to improve its manufacturing processes to better serve customers in the southeastern US.

Bunge Oils southeast region director of operations Beau Meneley said the efficiency obtained by packaging products in Decatur rather than shipping oils to other locations of the company is key to improving its customer service.

"With this facility, we were also able to incorporate the latest food safety and safe quality food (SQF) requirements into the design," Meneley said.

According to the North American operating arm of Bunge, adding the 130,000ft2 packaging plant to the site is expected to improve efficiency as well as customer focus along the entire value chain.

The Decatur plant takes soybeans and crushes them to extract the oil, which is refined and can be blended into ingredients such as salad oils, shortenings and specialty blends. The oil products will be shipped in bulk or packaged in cube boxes, 35lb jugs and more.
