NHTSA Has Issued a Third Recall Campaign for Faulty Egress Window Handles

The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a third recall campaign for faulty egress window handles manufactured by Panorama City, Calif. -based Ricon Corp. The newly issued recall from Eldorado National-California Inc. Affects an estimated nine vehicles manufactured between October 1, 2010 to October 31, 2010. The recall focuses on the same part, the Ricon 3-Minute Urban Transit Bus egress windows set, called into question in two nearly identical recalls issued last week. In the recall, the two models affected by the faulty part are the 2011 Axess and EZ Rider II Max buses. According to the recall acknowledgement, "The composition of the material used to cast the handle that opens the egress window is incorrect, resulting in a reduction in material strength. The handle(s) on the emergency egress passenger windows may break before the window latch is released. In the event that the egress window handle fails during an actual emergency situation, passengers may be trapped in the vehicle placing them at risk of injury. " The Ricon recall campaigns cite an estimated 889 affected vehicles. Source: glassbytes
