Hong Kong-based Styron on Thursday raised the prices of its general purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene grades by $50/mt due to rising production costs.
The notice did not disclose the previous or revised prices.
The company does not typically release its prices, but its revision announcements are watched as it is a major producer of polystyrene.
Styron runs a 260,000 mt/year polystyrene plant in Hong Kong. The plant has the capacity to make 52,000 mt/year of general purpose polystyrene and 208,000 mt/year of HIPS.
Platts last assessed GPPS at $1,805/mt CFR China and HIPS at $1,845/mt CFR China on December 18, up $15/mt and $5/mt, respectively, week on week. Weekly polystyrene assessments were suspended the last two weeks of 2013.
