EU-27 Unemployment Was 10.7 Percent in November Last Year, Stable Compared to October

On January 8, 2013, Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, reported that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the European Union member states (EU-27) was 10.7 percent in November last year, stable compared to October. The unemployment rate in the region was 10 percent in November 2011. The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area was 11.8 percent last November, up from 11.7 percent in October, while it was 10.6 percent in November of the previous year.

Compared to November 2011, the unemployment rate in the EU-27 in November last year fell in seven states, increased in 18 and remained stable in Denmark and Hungary.

Among the EU-27 member states, in November the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Austria at 4.5 percent, in Luxembourg at 5.1 percent, in Germany at 5.4 percent and in the Netherlands at 5.6 percent. The highest unemployment rates were seen in Spain at 26.6 percent and in Greece at 26 percent (in September 2012).
